Baccarat can seem like a complicated card game, but it’s actually quite simple to learn. A game of baccarat involves two or more players, a dealer, a deck of cards, and a piece of the table or wall that is covered. The goal of the game is to get as close to the number 9 as possible, though the number 9 tends to mean a much smaller payout than 2 or 3. Baccarat is played by two or more players. Usually, the game is played among eight players. The cards are dealt by the shoe holder, a player at the far end of the table, while the banker is dealt last. Occasionally, the shoe holder and/or the banker will be shuffled, causing the entire shoe to be dealt again. Although this rarely happens, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the stakes are raised. When it’s the “banker’s turn” the player closest to the dealer’s left hand side can case the shoe; commonly, the player closest to the dealer’s right hand side will be set to be the first one to have the shoe.
Baccarat is played with 8 decks of cards, each deck holding 32 cards. The cards are worth the numbers from 1 to 9, and the face cards are worth 10. The ace is the special card because it is the only card with a value of 1 in the entire deck. When a hand is “banked” (that is, the player cases the shoe), the bank will take an amount of the bankroll out of the shoe and the player is paid a 10% commission on the banked amount.
The game is started by the player placing a bet of one or more total bets on the table (a $10 bet on the banker, for example). The banker is then dealt for the first hand, and the cards are turned over at their face value to be revealed. - Banker presents hand to player.
The banker is the person who holds the shoe, and usually turns it upside down when he deals the cards, so that the cards are dealt to the player.
When the banker deals himself a hand, he is in possession of the shoe, and must deal the cards face up. At this stage, the player is not looking at his cards, and any fraudulent moves, such as looking at the cards while the cards are being dealt, or touching the cardspread while the cards are being dealt, will result in the banker being deemed not to be attempting to cheat.
Once the cards are dealt, the dealer will turn over one of the two Coin-tes (the face down coin located in front of the hole), and the player bets appropriate numbers of coins into the “player” pot, depending on the bet of the player for that particular hand.
The “banker” will then deal one card face up and place it face down in the “banker” space. As per contract, the banker will then turn over and place the coin in the “banker” pot.
- The second hand is dealt.
Once the second hand is dealt, the dealer will then place three cards face up in the proper position in the center of the table (the so-called “burn” hands).
The player to the immediate left of the “banker” (or “button”) deals one card face up, and then bets one coin into the “player” pot, after looking at his hole cards.
The player to the left of the “banker” (or “button”) deals one additional card face up, in addition to the “player” pot.
Next comes the third hand, and a fourth “player” pot is dealt.
Players now enter the last “hand” of the game – the “river” – and the final “hand” includes the final “hand” (the so-called “flush”) and the final “betting” (the final round of betting).
